I always love to see how light and shadows play with each other in the early morning sun. While walking through Shinjuku, Tokyo one early morning I was watching people walk to work as they passed in and out of these gigantic shadows cast by tall buildings. While the others are still in the shadows, it’s amazing to watch that one moment where someone moves into the sun for just that split second before quickly being covered by shadow once again.

It’s amazing the surprises you get when looking through photos that have been taken. Each time I go to Hachiko crossing in Shibuya I love to raise my camera high in the air to freeze a moment of every person crossing the road. In this one particular photo you can immediately spot a single Japanese woman in a face mask (which is very common in Japan) heading directly for me, while all others are facing and heading the opposite direction. It’s nice to have captured something so striking when a second later or earlier the photo would have been completely different!

In case you haven’t spotted it, check out my photos so far from my 2013 Japan trip.

As part of my trip to Japan I was very pleased to find plenty of spots that I had previously visited in 2011, many of which had changed in little to no amount. Part of my 2013 photos will be dedicated to revisiting these parts that I saw two years ago. This first photo is a series of vending machines in Shinjuku that is constantly passed by Japanese people on their everyday commute to work.

A fun day with my gorgeous girlfriend Jasmine and my friends Matt & Rachel was had the other day. I always enjoy taking couples portraits, but rarely have the opportunity to be on that other side of the camera. Matt is a brilliant photographer who took some very striking shots of Jasmine and myself in exchange for some portraits of Rachel and himself for their upcoming wedding invitation. At the end of the day we each traded memory cards so we could edit our own photos from the afternoon.
